Philharmonia Orchestra's Martin Musical Scholarship Fund has given invaluable support to countless young musicians since 1968. Its anonymous founder and benefactor provided enough money to enable exceptionally talented students to bridge the difficult gap between full-time study and professional status. Many Martin Music Scholarship Fund award winners have gone on to extremely successful orchestral or solo careers with names such as Natalie Clein, Nigel Kennedy, Freddy Kempf, Steven Isserlis and Jennifer Pike forming part of the Fund's alumni.

Saturday 17th
September 2011 1901 Arts Club again opened its doors for London
Open House - the UK's largest architecture festival.
We had such a strong response again this year (the third consecutive year the Club has taken part in Open House) and though it was tricky keeping track of all visitors we welcomed well over 180 people throughout the day for hourly tours highlighting the history of the building, its various uses since its construction as a schoolmaster's residence and its eventual extension and refurbishment to become the 1901 Arts Club.
Visitors were also entertained by talented musicians with each tour - solo pianists Yoon Chung and Andrew Vernon, and baritone Alexander Learmonth with Andrew Plant shared the performances between them, bringing the 'arts' of the 1901 Arts Club to life.
If you weren't able to join us for Open House 2011 you don't have to wait until next September; see our Diary of Events for details of public events to come and enjoy our hidden gem at a time that suits you.

As you know, the 1901 Arts Club is a unique venue dedicated to supporting artistic expression and bringing together musicians, artists and persons who share an appreciation for the arts. The Club building itself is located on London's South Bank, and seeks to be a hub for London's artistic community - to foster conversation, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas... and now we're happy to announce we're extending this to encompass Facebook and Twitter.
We'd love to hear your own comments, experiences of 1901 Arts Club or the arts in general, networks and new relationships through these social media sites and we'll keep you involved with some of the more instant happenings at the Club, and events involving Club regulars. We've already added photos of many of our past performers at the Club but do share pictures of your own Club events.
