AN EVENING OF CHAMBER MUSIC
|
Wednesday 5 March 2025Doors: 6.30pm
Concert: 7.30pm Duration: approx 90min. (incl interval) Tickets: £22 |
Welcome to the first in a new series of chamber concerts for 2025 at the 1901 Arts Club, performed by musicians from London and beyond and hosted by bassoonist Miles Chapman.
This concert starts in 1962, the final composition of Francis Poulenc, dedicated to the memory of Sergei Prokofiev. Our pianist Stephen Dickinson will regale us with two short piano pieces, one of his own creations, which will be the long-awaited premiere since its composition in 1995. The first half will end with the Divertissement for a trio of reed instruments by Jean Françaix, whose stated goal throughout his musical career was to give pleasure and joy to listeners of his music. And that he does.
After the break, we are treated to two enjoyable clarinet quartets – a Latin dance followed by a Yiddish dance, before the final work of the evening, Poulenc’s first major chamber work – a trio for oboe, bassoon and piano, dedicated to Manuel de Falla.
The Waterloo-based music salon comes with cosy seating and an amply stocked bar to quench your thirst before, and after the performance as well as during the intermission.
So come along, grab a glass of wine, kick back your heels and melt into some beautiful music.
