Berkshire Chamber Music Festival
The Berkshire Chamber Music Festival, founded in 2019, aims to bring the finest chamber music to everyone, especially those who might not otherwise have access to it. Berkshire appears wealthy and well-connected, but in many areas the reality is quite different: away from big centres and easy communication with London, classical music of the finest quality is often hard to find; and so are audiences for that music when it is presented.
Our project, overall, is to help to change this. We are confident that we do exactly what you ask: bringing audiences to chamber music, and chamber music to new audiences. We do this by a complex set of interconnected activities. We run a series of high-level chamber music concerts, in places where such concerts rarely occur. We run workshops to show children in local primary schools – those for whom music provision in schools has been radically cut – that this kind of music is something they can understand and enjoy and feel welcome amidst when sitting in the audience. We give concerts in hospices, care-homes and hospitals, taking the music to people who could not reach any kind of concert hall; but to whom classical music provides joy and solace. We are planning further collaborations with local cultural centres – museums and art galleries, for example; and we are designing a music series for a local prison. Our hope and our intention is to integrate the best classical music, and the work of the finest classical musicians, into people’s lives. |
