Thomas Mathias is a current Hattori Foundation Senior Award Winner.
This performance forms part of the Hattori Foundation early evening concert series. This is a very friendly series, in true Salon-style, where guests are invited to enjoy a pre-concert drink included in the ticket price, a one-hour performance (without interval) and then meet the performers and Trustees in the Club's bar after each recital for complimentary refreshments.

The Hattori Foundation was established as an Educational Trust by the Hattori Family and granted charity status in 1992.
The aim of the Foundation in the field of music is to encourage and assist exceptionally talented young instrumental soloists or chamber ensembles who are British Nationals or resident in the UK and whose talent and achievements give promise of an international career. |

Welsh violinist Thomas Mathias has been broadcast live as a soloist on S4C Television and BBC Radio Cymru, and has given recitals across Europe and North America. Thomas was recently selected as an Associate Artist of the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) and Countess of Munster Trust for 2024-25. He won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Julius Isserlis Scholarship and is a Hattori Foundation prize winner.
Thomas has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the UK and USA, and will give the world premiere of Kian Ravaei’s violin concerto in 2025. In 2023, Thomas gave the UK premiere of Tessa Lark’s Ysaye Shuffle. Recent performance highlights include solo and chamber appearances in Hawai’i, Texas, Nevada, Indiana, Florida, and the UK. In 2022-23, Thomas was a member of the Kuttner Quartet-in-Residence at Indiana University. Thomas is an Artist Diploma candidate at Indiana University, studying with Mauricio Fuks, and previously studied with So-Ock Kim, Alexander Sitkovetsky, and Leland Chen at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College of Music. Thomas performs on a Sergio Peresson violin and a Giovanni Lucchi bow, on generous loan from the Jacobs School of Music and the Maestro Foundation respectively. |
Dominic Degavino |
Pianist Dominic Degavino studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and at the Guildhall School, London with Helen Krizos, Charles Owen and Noriko Ogawa. He has performed at venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Southbank Centre, London as a Park Lane Group artist, and at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Concerto appearances include performances with the Manchester Camerata and RNCM Symphony Orchestra.
Dominic has achieved considerable competition success, including winning the RNCM Gold Medal Competition, 3rd Prize at the Concours International de Piano d'Epinal, France, and the Keyboard prize at the Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition. He also performed across the UK as a member of the Tillett Trust DEBUT and Countess of Munster Musical Trust recital schemes. Alongside work as a soloist, he is a passionate chamber musician, accompanist, and jazz player, with ensembles including the Mithras Trio (former BBC New Generation Artists) and with flautist Meera Maharaj. |
