This performance forms part of the Hattori Foundation early evening concert series. This is a very friendly series, in true Salon-style, where guests are invited to enjoy a pre-concert drink included in the ticket price, a one-hour performance (without interval) and then meet the performers and Trustees in the Club's bar after each recital for complimentary refreshments.

The Hattori Foundation was established as an Educational Trust by the Hattori Family and granted charity status in 1992.
The aim of the Foundation in the field of music is to encourage and assist exceptionally talented young instrumental soloists or chamber ensembles who are British Nationals or resident in the UK and whose talent and achievements give promise of an international career. |
Emily Crook
Emily Crook is a British Clarinettist who is currently studying for a Masters at the Royal College of Music as a scholar. She currently studies under Richard Hosford, Peter Sparks, Timothy Lines and Marie Lloyd. At present, Emily is on trial for Sub-Principal Clarinet of the Welsh National Opera, and has appeared as a guest with BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera and as a soloist with the New English Concert Orchestra.
Emily adores chamber music; she regularly performs with the Ashton Ensemble and Pente Winds, who have performed at venues such as Highgrove House, Garsington Opera, 11 Downing Street, Champs Hill and Dorchester Arts. She has also had the pleasure of performing with the Marmen Quartet at the RCM Chamber Festival, as well as playing with Kensington Winds at Islington Festival. Recently, Emily won the clarinet prize in the Solo Woodwind Competition at the RCM, and is also proud to be member of the award winning Hyde Quartet. The Quartet reached the Royal Overseas League Mixed Ensemble Final this Spring, and have won the RCM Woodwind Ensemble Competition and the Boconnoc Award, as well as having performed at the Royal Albert Hall Elgar Rooms. She also regularly appears with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, with a particular highlight being performing Bartok’s Miraculous Mandarin under Martyn Brabbins. Emily also enjoys encouraging and inspiring the next generation of musicians, passing down her love for music through her private teaching. Iain Clarke
Iain is originally from the Isle of Arran in Scotland and works around London, the UK, and internationally as a collaborative and orchestral pianist. He was the Royal College of Music’s Gilbert and Eileen Edgar and Anthony Saltmarsh collaborative pianist from September 2022 to July 2024, working with their woodwind, brass and percussion departments, and also works around the other London colleges as an accompanist. Notable chamber partnerships include saxophonist Richard Scholfield, cellist Lavinnia Rae, horn player Olivia Gandee, alongside frequent orchestral work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (including tours to Poland and Belgium), the London Symphony Orchestra, Bath Festival Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia. His debut album recording of the Concerto for Two Pianos (Eight Hands) and Wind Quintet by Malcolm Williamson is due to be released late 2024 / early 2025.
He has performed extensively across the UK in venues including Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Snape Maltings, Usher Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Recent and upcoming chamber highlights include recitals at Wigmore Hall with horn player Olivia Gandee, St Martin-in-the-Fields with saxophonist Richard Scholfield, recitals for the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Foundling Museum and a tour of Scotland in early 2024 with Richard Scholfield. Iain is a double graduate of the Royal College of Music, from the Collaborative Piano Artist Diploma, and the Master of Performance, where he studied with Danny Driver, Simon Lepper, Nigel Clayton and Kathron Sturrock. He studied Bachelor of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating with First Class Honours, where he studied with Jonathan Plowright and Heather Slade-Lipkin. In 2022-23 he held the keyboard positions on both the London Philharmonic Orchestra Foyle Future Firsts and Philharmonia Orchestra MMSF professional development schemes for orchestral performance. Iain made his concerto debut aged 16, playing Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 with the Junior RCS Symphony Orchestra, and made his international solo recital debut in July 2019 at Kaunas Piano Fest in Lithuania. In 2015, Iain won first prize in the UK and Ireland final of the Rotary Young Musician competition, and was awarded four competition prizes during his time at RCS, including 1st prize in their chamber music competition. |
