AN EVENING OF CHAMBER MUSIC
|
Wednesday 27 November 2024Doors: 6.30pm
Concert: 7.30pm Duration: approx 110min. (incl two intervals) Tickets: £22 |
Welcome to the last of our five chamber concerts this season at the 1901 Arts Club, performed by musicians from London and beyond and hosted by bassoonist Miles Chapman.
This concert commences with a stalwart of the wind quintet repertoire, Six Bagatelles, which Ligeti adapted for the ensemble from his piano cycle 'Musica ricercata'. We continue with the jazz-infused trio for Piano, Oboe & Bassoon by Andre Previn. We welcome back the Alma Mea Trio after a short break to play trios by Vivaldi and Telemann. The baroque works are in stark contrast to the trio d’anches, or ‘reed trio’ which bisects them, by Villa-Lobos in which he indulges in harmonic clashes, rhythmic dexterity, and dynamic extremes. The concert ends with Mládí (Youth) by the Czech composer Leoš Janáček, who at the age of 70, sought to reminiscence on his early years as a scholarship student at a monastery in Brno.
Our Waterloo-based music salon comes with cosy seating and an amply stocked bar to quench your thirst during the several breaks and intermissions.
So come along, grab a drink, kick back your heels and melt into some beautiful music.
