While complete programs of Beethoven's and Brahms' violin and piano sonatas are relatively common, experiencing all three of Robert Schumann's sonatas in one sitting is a rare treat. Shlomy Doblinsky and Maiko Mori bring their artistry to these performances, revealing Schumann's violin sonatas with their intricate interplay between violin and piano, offering a profound and intimate glimpse into the emotional landscape of one of the Romantic era's most inventive composers. Shlomy attended the prestigious Gnessin Music School in Moscow, before emigrating to Israel to continue his studies. He became the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholar at the Royal College of Music in London, and later completed a Masters in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whilst a student, Shlomy was prizewinner at various international violin competitions, including the Lipizer International Competition in Italy, UNISA Competition in Pretoria and the Philharmonia/MMSF Concerto Award, which won him an invitation to debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra as a soloist.
Shlomy has enjoyed a versatile career as a Soloist, Chamber Musician and an Orchestral player performing at major venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, St. John’s Smith Square, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Fairfield Halls, Auditorium di Trieste, Noga Theatre in Tel Aviv, Windsor Castle, the Sheldonian Theatre and many others. Shlomy was a member of the First Violins of the Philharmonia Orchestra for 11 years and currently guest leads the Metropol Orkest (Netherlands), Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Orion Orchestra and the London Concert Orchestra. He recently collaborated with Hiromi, Eydis Evensen and Hugh Jackman for various ensemble performances. |
Maiko Mori |
Since winning first prize at the Birmingham International Piano Competition in 2002, Maiko Mori has continued to establish herself as one of the outstanding soloists and chamber musicians of her generation on the international stage.
Maiko has garnered acclaim at prestigious venues and festivals in the UK, including the Purcell Room, West Road Concert Hall, and Cheltenham Festival, as well as abroad in countries such as Japan (Suntory Hall), Serbia (Kolarac, Montecatini International Piano Festival), India (TATA Theatre), and Sweden (Lidkoping Music Festival). Her performances have been broadcast on Radio France and BBC Radio 3. Her concerto debut in the UK with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vasily Petrenko, in 2006 marked the beginning of her successful collaborations with various orchestras worldwide. Notable recent concerto performances include Grieg's Piano Concerto in Osaka, Japan, with the NTT Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Takaya Mitsunobu. Maiko is known for her diverse repertoire, encompassing a wide range of concertos and solo works, with a particular affinity for 20th-century music and jazz/classical fusion repertoire. In addition to her performing career, Maiko is deeply committed to mentoring young musicians globally. She serves as a piano teacher at the University of Chichester and has been a regular faculty member of the international piano festival "Piano Week" since 2018, where she gives masterclasses and recitals. She has twice served as a jury member for the Montecatini International Piano Competition, including the most recent 2023 edition. Recently, she was appointed as an Artist for TIPA - Tokyo International Piano Association. |
