Manuel Sanguino

Manuel Sanguino, piano
Pianist Manuel Sanguino was born in the Dominican Republic and holds Spanish nationality.  From an early age he showed exceptional talent, which soon led him to receive important international recognition.

In 2010, Manuel was awarded with a scholarship by the Danilo Pérez Foundation and selected to participate in the renowned Panama Jazz Festival.  One year later, he moved to the Netherlands, where he won first prize in the Perpetuum Mobile competition, organized by the Young Talent Academy of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory.

During 2011 and 2012, Manuel took part in the Musik Zentral Festival (Austria), performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2 with Vienna’s Morphing Chamber Orchestra.  Over the next few months, Manuel won the first prize and the audience award in the national final of the Prinses Christina Competition in The Hague —the most prestigious competition for young musicians in the Netherlands — and was also a finalist in the “Young Musician of the Year", the preliminary round of Eurovision Young Musicians (Cologne), broadcast on Dutch national television.

In 2015, Manuel performed Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals together with students of the Sweelinck Academy and musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

In the field of contemporary music, Manuel  performed the world premiere of Gerard Zinsstag's piano quartet in 2018, in collaboration with the Mozarteum University and the Institut Neue Musik (Salzburg).

In 2024, Manuel had the honour of performing for His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and the royal family during the King’s Day celebration in Emmen, broadcast live on NPO 1 and national radio.
