Ewan Millar is a current Hattori Foundation Senior Award Winner.
This performance forms part of the Hattori Foundation early evening concert series. This is a very friendly series, in true Salon-style, where guests are invited to enjoy a pre-concert drink included in the ticket price, a one-hour performance (without interval) and then meet the performers and Trustees in the Club's bar after each recital for complimentary refreshments.

The Hattori Foundation was established as an Educational Trust by the Hattori Family and granted charity status in 1992.
The aim of the Foundation in the field of music is to encourage and assist exceptionally talented young instrumental soloists or chamber ensembles who are British Nationals or resident in the UK and whose talent and achievements give promise of an international career. |
Ewan Millar
Ewan Millar is an oboist from Reading, Berkshire. He graduated with a first-class degree, reading Music at St. Hilda’s College, Oxford, and is currently in the second year of his Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, learning with Melanie Ragge.
In 2020 Ewan won the woodwind final of BBC Young Musician, then going on to the Grand Final and getting to perform the Navarro “Legacy” concerto with the BBC Philharmonic. Since the competition he has been performing recitals around the UK, including at the Windsor, Cheltenham, and Lake District Summer Music Festivals.
He is currently a fellow with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, getting to learn and perform with them over the next year.
Beyond oboe he is also a jazz pianist, gigging regularly in bars and restaurants around Oxford and London. Ewan is extremely grateful to the Hattori Foundation for their generous support of his career at this pivotal juncture.

Tomos Boyles
Tomos Boyles is a young Welsh musician developing a career as a pianist. He has performed in numerous venues, including St.Martin-in-the-Fields, the Holywell Music Room in Oxford, the Wales Millennium Centre, Christ Church Cathedral, and the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
He has enjoyed success in competitions, having recently been awarded the first prize at the Wales International Piano Festival in Caernarfon; this came with a generous scholarship to help fund future studies. Other top prizes include the Blue Ribband at the National Eisteddfod, and first place in the EPTA competition.
Tomos graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University in 2022 with a first-class degree in music, having been the recipient of an academic scholarship during his studies. While at Oxford, he gave recitals at many of the University’s colleges, including Christ Church, Mansfield, and Jesus; he also live-streamed recitals from Christ Church Cathedral during the Covid-19 pandemic when there were restrictions on live music-making.
As a postgraduate at the Royal Academy of Music, Tomos studies under pianist Rustem Hayroudinoff, having previously studied with Alison Bowring at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s junior department. Tomos has also benefitted from one-off lessons and masterclasses with pianists such as Joanna MacGregor, Piers Lane, and Artur Pizarro, among others.
