Performance space

Performance space

1901 Arts Club is an elegant venue that can be hired exclusively by individuals, groups and organisations for a multitude of purposes.
We are happy to tailor packages to suit your individual requirements.  Discounts are available for charities and young/emerging artists.

1901 Arts Club is a receiving venue.  We are always very pleased to hear from performers and promoters wanting to make use of our versatile spaces for their own performances and events, but we don’t produce our own events, or book artists.  We operate on the basis of providing the venue and services for a hire fee and all ticket proceeds are due to the performer/hirer.

VENUE & CAPACITIES
1901 Arts Club is an intimate and unique event space minutes away from the bustling South Bank in central London.  Built in 1901 as a schoolmaster’s residence, the building maintains its late Victorian exterior while the Club’s beautifully decorated rooms re-create the intimate ambience of a private salon.

Our ground floor Salon (or concert room) seats up to 45 concert-style.  Our whole venue, including the first floor bar/lounge and small terrace will accommodate up to 60 with some guests seated and others standing, but the maximum for any one room is 45.  The meeting room on the second floor offers a lockable space for green room/changing area.

The use of our Steinway model C grand piano is included in the hire of the Club.  We keep it serviced and tuned regularly but if you would like it tuned especially for your recital we can arrange this and recharge the tuning to you at cost.  Our licence restricts music to acoustic performances only.

HIRE
For evening events (commencing after 5pm) the 1901 Arts Club is hired at a flat rate (please see rate card below).  This includes the exclusive use of the salon room, lounge and bar, terrace, and meeting room.  The hire also includes the services of a bartender for the duration of your booking.  The afternoon (from about 2pm) is normally kept free for you to set up and rehearse.
With any hire there is always at least one 1901 Arts Club representative on site during your booking (included in the hire).

BOX OFFICE
You are free to charge for entry and we offer our online box office with your hire (for no extra charge).  1901 Arts Club uses Ticketsource to provide this service enabling purchases by debit/credit card online.  Email or telephone reservations can be made with us, and/or you can sell tickets directly (or allocate complimentary tickets) and advise us of names for the door guest list.

Ticket prices are set by you, the hirer.  Proceeds from ticket sales will be offset against your invoice for hire and any excess returned to you as soon as possible thereafter.

We will gladly include listings of public events on our website, our email newsletters and Facebook page, in event programmes and a variety of online and printed listings for no extra charge, including Bachtrack.com and Concert-Diary.com.

1901 Arts Club staff usually operate the front of house to welcome guests, check names and coats and/or collect ticket money.

To be clear, 1901 Arts Club does not charge a commission on ticket sales, and 1901 Arts Club absorbs the cost of any PRS (Performing Rights Society) payments due on any performed repertoire within copyright.

We offer to print a simple programme for concerts at 1901 Arts Club, usually taking the format of a folded A4 page of parchment-type paper.
Drinks at the bar
BAR & LICENSING
Our licensed bar can operate on a hosted basis, as a cash bar, or a mixture of both (e.g. a welcome drink included in the ticket price then cash bar after that).  Our venue has a late licence to 2am and the hire covers the venue up to that time if required for post concert entertaining.

As stated above, the services of a bartender are included in the hire price.  Our bar list is available to download at the bottom of this page.

FLOWERS
The 1901 Arts Club is normally decorated with dried floral arrangements.  If you prefer fresh flowers we are happy to work with local florists who have prepared beautiful arrangements in keeping with the decorative style of the Club.

OTHER
We have an HD Ultra-short throw projector available for hire to use with the installed screen in the Salon.  Connect to your own laptop via HDMI connections.  On occasion, this equipment has been used for projection of song translations or video accompaniment to some performances.
CANCELLATION CHARGES
In the event of a booking being cancelled within 4 weeks of the event date 1901 Arts Club reserves the right to raise a cancellation charge, plus any expenditure incurred in conjunction with the booking by 1901 Arts Club at the date of cancellation. The cancellation fee starts at 30% of the hire charge and increases in increments to 100% of the hire charge with less notice.
